How Can Drone Technology Help?

In some countries, drone technologies are already finding lasting solutions to the issues of transporting and delivering medical aid and supplies to rural and inaccessible areas. Major parts of the countries keep these areas away from the central distribution centers, making drone technology beneficial in this case.

Even so, an ever-increasing fleet of cargo drones is carrying out life-saving medical deliveries. These cargo drones deliver blood packs, vaccines, and pharmaceutical packages to rural and inaccessible areas.

In rural Ghana, organizations are actively supplying females with birth control supplies. Some drones can also take DNA tests and blood samples to medical labs to analyze results and accurately determine effective treatment methods.

The deployment of UAV technology in various medical emergencies, like the curtailment of the rapid spread of contagious diseases, including the deadly ebola virus, tuberculosis, and malaria, is arguably the most amazing development for humanitarian aid workers in Africa. Medical supplies delivery has helped to save many lives and time in such situations.

In agriculture, drones can help increase crop yield and enhance crop growth by monitoring fields aerially and early stress detection in plants. Currently, over 60% of the agricultural land in Africa suffers from severe soil degradation.

When you combine this with the weakening infrastructure that restrains access to a lot of agricultural resources and the need for more literacy among farmers, there is little wonder for the underutilization of vast areas of agriculture.

Now, drones can hover over vast fields of agriculture such as rice, sweet potatoes, maize, and vegetables with special infra-red sensors which help collect and collate data and send them to farmers and governmental institutions, helping them understand and predict the yield of crops; this is even before the stress becomes visibly evident. Therefore, drones allow the government and farmers to take preventative measures to prevent crop losses.

This help to optimize the usage and output of farmlands and enhance the profits, yields, and quality of crops. Drones can also be important to Africans with various entrepreneurial activities, from product deliveries in congested areas to providing aerial data solutions in civil engineering, forestry, and mining.

While there may be several challenges ahead, Africa is a hub of drone activities and developments, enabling numerous opportunities for drone usage on the continent.
