In January 2020, Lilongwe in Malawi hosted the opening of the first African Drone and Data Academy (ADDA). This action is part of ongoing efforts to encourage drone usage to deliver services and programs that will affect the lives of kids and young people.

Implementing drone technology can significantly impact the delivery of humanitarian and development programs in Africa and other places. The academy will play a critical role in providing young people with the knowledge and abilities they need to use drones to their advantage to benefit the communities in which they live.

Through a course that lasts for twelve weeks, the academy intends to cultivate expertise in utilizing UAVs for humanitarian, development, and commercial objectives across the continent. By 2021, it plans to have roughly 150 students complete the training to develop and pilot drones. The initial group of 26 students, hailing from throughout Africa, will not have to pay tuition thanks to the funding provided by UNICEF's partners.
